Harrisonburg resident Tyreaf Isaiah Fleming was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 17 following the shooting, which happened in the 1500 block of Devon Lane in his hometown and left eight of his victims with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say that at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sunday morning, witnesses stated that a suspect - later identified by investigators as Fleming - fired multiple shots into a crowd at an outdoor gathering.
Witness statements and available security camera video helped detectives from the Harrisonburg Police Department identify Fleming as a suspect, and he was arrested later in the day.
Five of Fleming’s victims were treated at Sentara RMH Medical Center, and the other three were transported to the UVA University Hospital. They were between the ages of 18 and 27.
No additional information on the victims has been released by the Harrisonburg Police Department.
Fleming was charged with:
- Attempted murder;
- Aggravated malicious wounding;
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon;
- The use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Additional charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues, according to police.
